Ok so i wanted to test out Cura slicer, i have heard others are using it and its their preferred Slicer. Up until now i have been plagued with many printer problems, ones that i have had to solve (that i really shouldn't have had to, but anyway). So i didn't have the patience to try and figure out other software, i just wanted something, anything to work. So Repetier-Host and Slic3r were the choice as they worked. so any way here is my comparison of a batman bust, the basics are this: Medium: ABS HE:250deg HB:90deg Layers: first/rest= 0.2 infill: 0% speed: 25mm (both perimeters and layers) Support: No So these were the settings i tried to have both exactly the same but Cura I'm not used to so i had it set to normal and changed the setting that i new were represented in both i.e.. speed, infill, perimeter, temps. things i were not sure on was that in Cura there is Perimeter thickness which was set to 0.8mm, i think Slicer is 0.2, as you can pick how many perimeters yet in Cura i could not see that setting (i think thats why its set to 0.8 which is x4 of 0.2.....i hope that how it works out) So other things you should know, i was going to print them both from sd card (reprint the other one) but for some reason the Cura g-code loaded on sd card would not load( this was due to card problems not code) so due to that the first one (left in pix) was printed from Rep-host sliced by Slic3r, the other is Sliced in Cura and printed in Rep-host(one on right in pic) also i have not done any cleaning of models, they are as they came of the Hotplate.

SO left is Slic3r and right is Cura Slicer Cura Again no cleaning up of prints so the spider weds you can just make out are on the Cura print, maybe its a setting to do with retraction, but the Slic3r print didn't have them.

As you can see there is a lot of stringing when change of print positions Bottom layers Left Slic3r, right Cura the shoulders of each Slic3r (left) had problem due to 0% infill and no support and maybe because of angle of shoulder, Cura (right) had no problems at all in this area.

Yes, you should be able to control most of the stringing with extraction. I've been using a recommendation from the Groups with Retraction Speed at 4000 and Retraction Distance at 3-4mm, seems to be working well. I also found with Cura, even when you slow it down, it seems to give quicker print times.
